The Challenge

  • Seattle's local ordinance requires employers to give workers who may work alone a way to summon help when needed.
  • The downtown store sat in a dense, high-foot-traffic tourist district where neighboring storefronts had experienced after-hours burglaries.
  • The store was usually staffed by two or more employees, but staff moved between the front and back of the store and could occasionally be alone.
  • As a storefront open to the public, any shift carried the possibility of a difficult interaction.
  • The company needed a solution in place quickly.

The Solution

  • Eighth Generation came to React Mobile through a referral from Columbia Hospitality, which manages both Eighth Generation and the Snoqualmie Tribe's Salish Lodge and Spa.
  • React Mobile moved quickly to meet the urgency of the request, hand-delivering devices to Eighth Generation's headquarters.
  • The team completed a virtual installation and supported staff through go-live, with training documentation that let the headquarters responders and store team troubleshoot on their own afterward.
  • Eighth Generation paired the devices with its own retail response procedure: a store employee triggers an alert, and a headquarters responder verifies the situation on the store’s video feed, then contacts emergency services if needed, in line with Seattle’s verification requirements.

  • Battery life that lasted well beyond a full shift
  • Positive store staff feedback on ease of use
  • Account setup, billing, and contracts completed quickly across React Mobile's team

"The overall responsiveness of James and the team to ensure that we were able to implement this solution quickly, urgently, and as easily as possible was definitely the factor that stood out for us. We had a hand delivery of the devices to our headquarters, and the implementation and setup were really, really great."
