The bill is designed to strengthen protections for both hotel employees and guests through enhanced oversight and operational requirements.

Under the Safe Hotels Act, hotels in NYC would be required to:

• Employ direct staff for core operations, including front desk and housekeeping roles, rather than relying on contracted workers for these essential functions.
• Provide panic buttons to employees working alone, ensuring staff have immediate access to emergency assistance when needed.

Together, these measures are intended to create a safer, more accountable hotel environment across the city.
