On July 25, 2018, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Ordinance No. 2018-4207 “Protection of Hotel and Hostel Employees from Assault and Sexual Harassment”, which provides regulations regarding personal safety of hotel and hostel employees. The Ordinance defines "safety button" or "notification device" as portable emergency contact device that is designed so that an employee can quickly and easily activate such button or device to effectively summon prompt assistance to the employee's location by a hotel or hostel security officer, manager or other appropriate hotel or hostel staff member designated by the hotel or hostel employer.
Some hotels had devices such as "noisemakers," but they did not meet the requirements set forth in the Ordinance, as they simply emit loud noise and do not disclose the location of the employee in need of prompt assistance.
The deadline for hotels and hostels must be in full compliance with the requirements of the Ordinance by 11:59 p.m. on September 15, 2019.
With 25% of the Miami Beach Hotels using React Mobile, our account executive and technology partner approached the challenge by evaluating existing technologies at the property and provided two options:
The customer was asked to fill out a “Property Requirements Checklist” with their staff to help coordinate logistics and minimize guest disruption during the installation. They also independently developed an on-site policy to address the new cultural changes. In order to leverage existing technology and save on costs, the customer chose the Bluetooth Panic Button + Knowcross Integration safety solution option.
Hardware:
React Mobile Bluetooth Panic Buttons
Software:
React Mobile Hospitality App
React Mobile Dispatch Center Cloud-Based Platform
Knowcross KNOWHousekeeping App Integration
The React Mobile Safety Solution integrated with Knowcross KNOWHousekeeping allowed Nautilus to protect their housekeepers and provide a quick and easy way to call for help. The technology meets the ordinance requirements by providing location-based information when the panic button is triggered.
